He’s an accomplished editor in his own right, publishing lots of anthologies with Gardner Dozois, so my guess is he’s probably editing a lot himself as he goes. He might be sending it to his editor piece by piece too, instead of all at once when he decides it’s done. I know Brandon Sanderson mentioned on his site that

I read an advance review copy of In Calabria by Peter S. Beagle. It’s a nice story with some interesting exploration of how media coverage would handle a unicorn sighting. The writing is lovely, as one would expect from Beagle. However, there was one part of the book that I hated. The main character is this crabby old

That’s some good dream-casting right there.

Ah, I didn’t play that game. And I totally forgot about I Am Legend.

It’s still different than the usual viral explanation and even if the ending is awfully similar to I Am Legend, the experiment ethics issues were fascinating to me.

Yeah, I’m trying to console myself with that silver lining too.

Awesome! I’m really glad she did so well in the role.

I really liked the book, so I’m excited about this movie. However, I’m pretty disappointed at two casting choices. They flipped the races of Melanie and Miss Justineau, and I think it actually matters here. Book Melanie is a little blonde girl, and given the way that our culture tends to view little blonde girls as

I got an advance review copy of The Bear and the Nightingale. It was lovely. If you liked Uprooted by Naomi Novik, you’ll probably like this one. It’s got a fairy tale vibe but has some surprising depth to it, what with the way that the medieval Russian politics and religion affect things.

Haven’t played Pandemic Legacy, but it looks awesome. Risk Legacy is excellent. I have a regular group of gamer friends and we’ve all loved playing it. Parts of the world that were valuable strategic points have become so difficult and costly to hold that it’s changed everyone’s strategies. The changing nature of the

I forgot to add Smallworld to the list. That’s like Risk, but you change factions throughout the game as you decide you’ve expanded your empire as far as you can reasonably go.

Dominion, for sure. It’s got great replay value, and there are a lot of great expansions out now if your dad ends up really enjoying it. Either Dominion or Dominion: Intrigue would be good because they can be used as base games. This is a deck-building game and what’s nice is that the exact combination of cards you

If you want sci-fi that makes you hopeful, you should definitely NOT read Cixin Liu’s Remembrance of Earth’s Past series. I just finished the last book, and I can not imagine anything more bleak and pessimistic than that series.

I read a LOT of fantasy, but I too don’t entirely get the Rothfuss fandom. I read both books, the novella, and the short story in GRRM’s anthology Rogues and decided that while the series does have its high points, there’s a lot that I can’t get over. Rothfuss has one good female character (Auri) and I agree

Some good deals on board games at Amazon.

I love his books, but then again, I love a lot of books. He’s known for his worldbuilding and magic systems, which actually seem to fit together in a logical way (as opposed to how some authors have cool magical things happen but there are no discernible rules about how magic can be used). He does an excellent job of

FYI, The Unreal and the Real has been out for a few years as a 2 volume set. It looks like this combines both volumes into one huge one (for about the same price as just one volume of the earlier set).

I have the two volume set already. It’s a great collection of stories.

Can we talk about the hilariously bad closed captions that appeared on the video? It’s like the Bad Lip Reading guy was put in charge of captions.

Born-again Christian here who would never dream of voting for Trump in a million years. Clinton’s policies are far more in line with Biblical principles. There are tons of verses I could quote, but perhaps the clearest example is Galatians 5:22-23. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,

Where are you seeing that date? I’ve been keeping an eye out for it too, but as of right now it’s listed on Amazon as currently unavailable with no release date in sight. I did see the publisher’s blog had a post from May saying that they moved the release date to September, but all pre-order links on that page are
