Too bad the remake was bad. I could be remembering this wrong, but at the time, Liam Neeson swore off doing any special effect movies after his experiences with Phantom Menace and Haunting remake.

My theory about the delays is that Cameron is such a perfectionist that he insisted they film on location on Pandora. Six years there, maybe a year or two for the shoot, and they are currently still in cryo on the way back. I mean, has anyone actually seen Sam worthington recently?

It was a bad idea from the get-go, built around NASA’s hopes of huge numbers of space launches as part of a mission to Mars (which evaporated not long after the Apollo 11 landing). Even the original Shuttle proposal needed to do at least 50 domestic launches/year to make it competitive with the Titan-III expendable…
