We have no way of knowing how long it took to record those lines, so I don’t think we can say she made more hourly than the devs. Why are we pitting her against the devs, anyway? They deserve more for creating something that became a huge success too.

Fair! Mars was the first PI that came to mind, haha.

Just because we didn’t know exactly how successful MGS would end up being doesn’t mean Jennifer Hale deserved to be paid less. Once it became such a big hit, Konami should have used that money to compensate the talent further for making the game what it became.

It wasn’t the first game. Konami had already put out three Metal Gear games by this point, with two of ‘em being best sellers in Japan. It wasn’t a Super Mario or anything, but it wasn’t entirely unknown. It was still definitely early in voice acting, though - there were earlier examples of it and MGS wasn’t unique in

That’s not how it works, though. Game voice actors don’t get royalties. If you try to negotiate for that in your contract, unless you’re pretty much a big celebrity, you’re going to get laughed at. You can’t just “negotiate for them.”

Sounds about right, sadly. It’s always one-off payments. I remember that’s what caused the whole debacle with new voices for the Silent Hill HD Collection; James’s voice actor insisted he was owed residuals and had no idea (and refused to believe) that at the time, VAs only got extra payments if their work was used in

game!Detective Pikachu is a private eye, not a cop. He’s basically Veronica Mars, only fuzzy and adorable. Easy peasy.

Read the article a little closer - it says that recent labor cases have established a precedent of one month of severance per year of working for the company. From what I can tell, the letter of the law only requires one week, but this is the devs basically going “you’re not doing something illegal but there’s already

Oop, saw this late, sorry. I’m mixed on what they’re trying to do with it so far, but it’s fun to see and to speculate!

Ehhh, I mean, Remake itself does hint at Aerith and Sephiroth both having some knowledge of what’s to come, and the whole point of the Whispers is to keep things on track for what was supposed to happen in the OG. Plus the minibosses at the end of Remake were supposed to be shades of Kadaj/Loz/Yazoo from Advent

Well, this is neat, at least! Better than being weird about Britney. And lord knows people on strike need the help. The longer we can keep it going, the better.

The Inhuman stuff did kind of play into her storyline for a while iirc (been a bit since I read the first few arcs). Like, it’s why Lockjaw stuck around with her, it involves her bloodline, and it’s a big part of her friendship with Kamran in the comics and how that all goes south. It kind of fell by the wayside for a

For sure. Like, the only reason to prioritize iPhone users I can actually see as someone who switched from Android to iPhone is group chats. Most of my extended family has iPhones, but my mom and dad are on Androids. When my aunt sends out birthday notifications to the family, it’s always in the same group thread and

Oh for sure, they did really well but it was a crappy move in general. I was under the impression that non-union works couldn’t credit their voice actors by name. I think some of the actors are in SAG-AFTRA, though, so I’m a little surprised to hear it was non-union, as common as non-union works are in games.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the rerelease has it. Normally I personally don’t mind it too much when they do that, but it’s already existing content now. I know it takes a lot of work to get it into the new engine and get it up to snuff, to be fair, but it’d feel weird considering P4G and P5R’s new content was all

Could be, but as someone mentioned below, Vic Mignogna (Junpei) finally got what was coming to him as a sex pest (it’s been known for over a decade but it finally culminated in him trying to sue a fellow voice actor he harassed and it went even worse than you’d expect, to the point of hilarity), and then Karen

talk about dramatic lol. It seems like less angry and upset and more just that leaping to fired seems a bit hasty.

Nope, you generally don’t get royalties. Last I checked (and tbf this was years ago during the Silent Hill HD Collection debacle), you’re technically owed payment if your work is used in a *new* game rather than a rerelease, but that’s about it.

Uh, not quite...? I guess you could make a point about reusing Martinet’s voice and residuals (though I think voice actors are owed money if their recorded lines are used in new titles?), but one of the big issues right now is AI voicing/writing/appearances, not reusing previously recorded content.

I genuinely had never thought of it that way and I love that hahahaha
