Again, underestimating the dev time, along with the variety of obstacles that come with game development, definitely contributed largely to it. But considering we live in a world where in-office work is the norm, having to entirely shift gears and figure out routines, get software working, get hardware to workers,

It's not even the article itself that rubbed me the wrong way tbh. It's the headline, it's weirdly snarky considering how normal delays are in general.

In fairness, developers *have* commented on the delays that the pandemic have caused. It’s definitely part of what you said (even a large part!), I’m not saying it’s not, but I think saying a global pandemic in a world that often prioritizes in-office work is an excuse downplays the impact it’s had.

I mean, we already know delays aren’t exactly uncommon in this industry, and the pandemic entirely fucked over so many people that it’s only natural for more delays to occur.

I hadn’t seen any of that! That’s legit amazing. Made my day better tbh -- thanks!

Of all the companies to stand up firmly like this, Bungie wasn’t the one I would have expected, considering the kinds of games they make. This gives me a bit more hope for the industry in general!

In fairness, Genshin is quite different from most gachas. The ones I’ve dabbled in keep a pretty similar schedule to Genshin, just with mini updates every couple of weeks (as in, a small event that’s “do your dailies and we’ll give you currency!” or “here are some new 2D furnishings!” like in Cookie Run Kingdom).

I willlllll say that the way they handled their anniversary, compared to pretty much any other gacha game I’ve seen, was particularly stingy. I think criticism of it was warranted, especially considering how generous many other popular gacha games are. (In fairness, Genshin’s open-world nature is vastly different from

Yeah, that’s the thing I think that’s throwing people off, the building number. It’s alsochanged in other media (like, iirc it’s the 107 Building in Tokyo Mirage Sessions) to help with copyright stuff. I know 109 gave Square permission to use it for NEO:TWEWY, but they probably want to use it as an easter egg (and to

Yeah, exactly what I meant. I think people take the TWEWY characters having appeared in DDD as way more than it was meant to be. I remember seeing people going wild with theories when NEO:TWEWY was about to come out, insisting it was going to be related to KH, but Square would be way more obvious about the crossover

Isn’t that just an assumption people made because they used 104 instead of 109? We’ve never seen the city referred to as Shibuya (only Quadratum), we haven’t seen any of the TWEWY characters, we haven’t seen any concepts from TWEWY whatsoever (from pins to Noise or Reapers), and the Shibuya we see in TWEWY is

Yes yes yes exactly this! It was a lot of anime and game silliness, but it was relatively straightforward, even if the first half of KH2 is rather muddled and relies on the narration dumps later in the game. BBS gets a little much, but DDD contradicts itself and sends everything off  the rails.

I just need to say I love your comments. They’re almost exactly what I would have said. There’s plenty to critique in the games and about Nomura’s style, but that doesn’t mean every single thing that happens at Square is from him. Hell, even Versus being such a trainwreck wasn’t entirely on him, not with Square

I don't think TWEWY has anything to do with where Sora is, though? They keep calling it Quadratum instead of Shibuya, and Shibuya is a real place anyway, not just from TWEWY.

I mean, I wouldn’t say anyone is “obsessed” with anyone else other than maybe Kylo and Rey. And there being more intimacy between two characters than another two characters doesn’t mean there’s no chemistry between the others. Like, Finn and Rey getting more tender moments doesn’t mean Finn and Poe don’t have

I mean, I don’t think it’s really that simple? We gay people have had to make do with tiny crumbs for so long, having characters intended to be gay not allowed to express it on screen, queer characters forced into endings where they’re alone or dead (more often than straight characters with the relatively few gay ones

FWIW, I do legitimately see Pepe used more often lately as a non-alt-right thing. It’s still in use by the alt-right, to my understanding, but it seems like there’s also a mix of people trying to take it away and people who never really associated it with the alt-right to begin with.

Ehhh, I mean, to co-0pt something is to take it for your own use, so you don’t really need the creator’s permission. At least with my time on the internet, I usually saw it either in gamer communities that leaned into the 4chan aesthetics (before the site was so explicitly alt-right, from what I remember) or in

I mean, just because there’s a common other usage doesn’t mean Pepe wasn’t co-opted. It legitimately got used quite a bit specifically by the alt-right. Hell, the Wikipedia page for Pepe cites literally more than 20 reputable sources (including Yahoo! News, Politico, at least 3 academic textbooks, the International

Sure, I agree with that to a degree. We need to be a lot more proactive about shutting down bullshit like that. Some people definitely pushed back--I wouldn’t say “nobody ever thought” to--but my point is, Pepe *was* indeed co-opted. It was used often specifically by alt-right people and caught on there.
