ETA: Thatcher wasn’t exactly a social progressive either. I imagine if gay marriage had come up during her tenure, she would have fought it tooth and nail. And we all know she was perfectly fine with leaders murdering their citizens for no reason (see Pinochet).

Cruz is much worse. Reagan was left wing in comparison. I mean Thatcher didn’t help fund any ‘gay cure’ organizations in other countries.

It’s not far away. And Scotland was hoodwinked by the promises Cameron made into just barely achieving a yes on Independence. They’ll hold another referendum and get out.

No, I remember how bad Thatcher was. These two are closer to Ted Cruz than Ronald Reagan.

The Welsh wanted this, Northern Ireland though? Heck yeah the reunification of Ireland would be great to see.

My favorite description I've read on the internet is that Boris is "the guy who farted in the elevator and then got off on the second floor".

They did, but the problem with this one is that she is so conservative that she will make things actively harder for women, especially marginalized ones (which interestingly enough is also what Margret Thatcher did)

Clueless American here, so feel free to point out how I’m wrong - but this strikes me as some men (Boris, Nigel, etc) made a big mess then walked away, leaving it for the women to clean up.

I don’t want to be rude but did you even think about what you were typing?? Cause #1 is all kinds of flawed. Are you including Hispanics in your 70% figure? Also, newsflash. Whites are still the majority in the US, so yeah, there will be more white people killed as a total. As a proportionate amount of the population?

Seriously, thank you Kara. Please never stop writing about this. People need to be reminded, beat over the head even, that this country is still racist. I don’t know if we will ever not be, but we have to try and if that makes certain people uncomfortable, I personally don’t give a fuck. We should be uncomfortable.

I can’t imagine standing behind a coworker who literally murdered someone, especially if as a result of that the public at large looked at me as potentially a murderer. Like, think of how insane a work environment that is. You see videos of the guy at the next desk killing a dude for no reason, and your response is to

As my not-always-politically-correct mother used to say, “It’s a good thing so many black people are good Christians, because they sure have ample reason to kill white folks."

It makes me so uncomfortable that I can think that way because even though he’s still a kid I’m raising him to be proud of his blackness in every way I can. But god damn is it terrifying sending them out in the world.

The cop stat is eerily similar to one I saw about a decade earlier concerning medical malpractice complaints against doctors: roughly 84% of them are brought against 6% of the doctors (or at least were at that time).

Now playing

This reminds me of a wonderful scene in the final debate of “The Great Debaters”.

I remember seeing a stat mot long after Tamir Rice’s murder that 83% of police brutality complaints were filed against 6% of the cops.

I read Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me recently, and was struck by his purposeful use of the word body, over and over. To have your body taken away, to have black bodies stolen. That was a strong reminder that this is a violent physical thing that happens to real people, and not some abstract thing from

As Frank Herbert wrote long ago, fear is indeed the mind killer. Too many brain-dead fools in blue out there.

Thank you Kara for giving words to this sheer sense of anger, sadness and frustration.

Using the rape & abuse of a woman to ignite & motivate the avenging spirit of the male vigilante who loves her is a tired and overused cliche.
