Your reply is so damn spot-on. The ONLY sympathy I have for this woman—and I cannot even begin to adequately emphasize just how slight it really is—is that of course no one is talking about the father; it's all on this piece of shit mother like she procreated asexually.

If they all made a personal choice to grow and change it would save a lot of lives. Trans teens rejected by their families are in serious danger of suicide. That takes a short google search to find out. A to B. She is at fault for that.

How has no one called you out on your bullshit in this reply?

I am so sincerely lucky to have been raised agnostic/atheist (and I'm an old, when that didn't happen so much), and my spouse, siblings, children, all, have only been in churches for weddings/funerals.

Not a believer but the idea that God doesn't make mistakes comes from the monotheistic faiths. God is perfect. That's his thing. If he isn't perfect, he isn't worthy of worship/isn't God. I mean, that's in the definition.

Birth defects are gifts from God for parents to feel smug and self-righteous. *deep breath*

Oh, heyyyy, fellow former citizen of Fort Wayne.

The list of mistakes god made in this situation are numerous, if you choose to believe in a god. Making someone trans ( "here, let me make you unfit for the society my creation has created"), giving her to these parents, making these parents so narrow minded, making the girl think the only way out was death, and so

Brought up an old, old memory. I went to high school in AZ. I remember my friends telling me about a Senior getting excommunicated because she had an abortion. So, here I am, 15, and I know all about an abortion some poor girl had because the church threw her out and we all knew why.

well, God gave Leelah to these two worthless, abusive shitbags, so there's one mistake.

oh man. i grew up in a lutheran church and something similar to this happened as well. they didn't necessarily make her apologize, but they did basically make her get married. it was so weird and rushed and she clearly was not into it. i remember her looking so sad.

Yes, I imagine he left it to his wife to deal with. I am quite familiar with silent men who let their wives deal with all the shit and never say a word because confrontation is uncomfy.

I don't get how people can say "god doesn't make mistakes" to justify the truly abusive practice of "conversion therapy" and disowning, and not also picket cosmetic surgeons' offices. Or wear makeup. Or use rogaine.

>"God doesn't make mistakes,"

I hope the "therapists" her mother took her to also take a good, long look at themselves and what they are doing to young people.

Come on, birth defects are clearly the sign that the mother is sinful! A punsihment, not a mistake.../S

Well, the logic would follow that birth defects are possible if one assumes that the god that doesn't make mistakes is a sadist.

Anyone who tries to claim that god doesn't make mistakes doesn't understand what a birth defect is.

Denial and self-delusion are so incredibly powerful. Some people will do anything to maintain their illusion that they did nothing wrong, and that everything is OK. Although it will be far too late for Leelah, I can only hope that she has a reality check at some point.

Oh my god lady, your daughter literally said you were part of the reason she was killing herself. Maybe think about what that means instead of running your mouth about how it wasn't your fault and disrespecting your kid even in death.
