He was my mom’s dog and he led a long and fruitful life. He was 14 when he died, and by that time was blind, deaf, and incontinent. He was the alpha in a house full of standard poodles and was quite a fellow, even though he only weighed 8 pounds :) He is greatly missed!

We’ve successfully free fed a standard poodle and a dalmatian. Both were/are very lean and healthy! We have two other standard poodles with weight problems and both are fed on a meal schedule. But there are a lot of variables involved and free feeding wouldn’t work for every dog.

Haha :) There are definitely some dogs who can never be free fed due to, ummm, excessive appetites! But usually, if food is not regularly withheld, most dogs know not to overeat.

You can free feed dogs, particularly if it is done consistently from puppyhood. It’s harder to switch to if the dog has never free fed because the dogs will overeat and it can be unhealthy for them. We’ve had two dogs that were free fed since they were puppies and both were very lean.
