I don't know. I think some people (lots of some people) really can't face up to the fact that they benefit from society being racist, so they just make themselves believe no one is racist - thus the "you're only saying I'm racist because I'm white", "you're only saying it's a hate crime because the victim was black".

Yeah, I know, most European monarchies jewels are old/repurposed. Still, that just makes it a legacy of British colonialism (probably in India?), instead of more recent African diamond problems.

: A civil action lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

I'm torn. I'm not a big fan of fancy stuff in general. The diamonds are gross, I don't really see the point in gilded cutlery, and I'm pretty anti-monarchy.

"Exotic beauty" Baarrrrrrrf.

Honestly, I think the takeaway is not necessarily that Gohmert thinks civil rights of minorities can be equated to the animals that were and are the subject for some pretty legendary Endangered Species Act battles, although he probably puts them in the same general category of 'not super important.'

But... but... that doesn't mesh as well with my pre-conceived narrative of everyone who's different than me.

Overall, probably, but I would really, really, really love to see Marianne Vos in the men's Tour.

I'm like 65% sure that Chris Froome is a very large tortoise who has lost his shell.

Oh man, this is exactly me. I really love when people try to grasp at the name thing. "Oh, [Very Irish, but not super common last name]?, Is that .... Thai?"

In general, I don't care what inanimate objects people want to use to get off.

This sounds a lot like some conservative crazy person's rant about some poor person who had the gall to own something nice once.

This is where I get to go (particular-kind-of-)Asian supremacist on you all, and cackle about having comparatively less body hair.

I just thought to myself "My body hair does not look like black-and-white macaroni. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?"

I don't think I quite agree with you, but in one way I am sort of glad that Zimmerman was acquitted.
