Is this the election you want to find that out? Do you think embracing the label would HELP him win? Because if you can’t make that argument then I just don’t believe it’s worth taking the chance, especially with other actual progressive good candidates to choose from.
And you are, of course, one of those. Glad we figured this out now before we got trapped next to each other at a party.
I think the point is that the GOP could try to demonize any legitimate progressive candidate as “socialist” but it makes the line land a lot harder when that candidate agrees with it. Do I think the country should realign its attitudes towards the word socialism? Of course I do. But I don’t see that happening in any…
This idea that anyone who isn’t Bernie is a centrist shill is why no one likes you people. I have other reasons (some outlined above) for Bernie not being my favorite candidate, but electability is on that list. The Bernie Bros willing to go down swinging for him are as much of a reason Trump is president right now…
Where did I suggest that? Are you saying that there isn’t a single one of the 8000 Democratic candidates other than Bernie who isn’t a “centrist dipshit”?
I wasn’t suggesting it was a particularly GOOD argument. I think the common thinking is that a third party candidate ultimately helps Trump one way or another. Was just trying to get out ahead of the people who might make the above argument.
You might be right. I just don’t hear as much chatter from the chamber of commerce class about Warren or the others as I do about Bernie. Maybe that will change as the field gets winnowed down and more of them are vocally supporting those policies with more airtime.
Oh I am surely not suggesting we nominate Joe Biden or anyone of his ilk. I agree that the most important quality the nominee should have is the ability to generate enthusiasm, and Bernie does have that. But I think there are other candidates who could do just as well in that area without some of Bernie’s baggage.
I don’t know that he’d be any more popular among Democrats than Warren, and while Warren has problems of her own I don’t think she would be as likely to draw in a serious independent candidate like Bloomberg who could throw all the predictions out the window. I can see a lot of center-left midwestern Democrats staying…
I think a Bernie nomination would almost certainly draw someone like Bloomberg in as an independent candidate. And there’s an argument that a Bloomberg type might siphon more votes away from Trump than Bernie, but it makes the whole thing a lot messier. To me, that’s reason enough to shy away from Bernie, especially…
I like Bernie well enough and I would certainly vote for him in the general of course, but this really would be a serious issue for him. Bernie has never been faced with full throated opposition in ANY election. The Clinton campaign, while maybe doing some shady shit behind the scenes, were very careful not to attack…
“The U.S. government over the last five years under President Bush, and crystalized under President Obama, has wanted us to kill the bad guys, but in the right way. Meaning compassionate and only under the rules of engagement that they say to you.”
I’m a film editor by trade. For this to make it to air in the biggest TV series of all time is BEYOND insane. People are human, mistakes happen. PLENTY of mistakes happen in production. But even on small professional productions, there are dozens of people who look at every single frame of a show with razor sharp eye…
Just about every poll that asks the question has Biden supporters listing Bernie as their 2nd choice and vice versa.I’m not sure what lane DeBlasio thinks is even remotely open to him. He’s what, slightly better known Eric Swallwell? Much less popular Biden? White guy Kamala Harris? I can’t think of a hole DeBlasio…
Trump’s going to get re-elected and we absolutely deserve it. Just tripping over our own dicks at every opportunity.
So does Drew think that when he pays his credit card by phone like some kind of eastern European immigrant there are no computers involved? Like someone at American Express just writes his info down on a piece of paper and walks over to the bank to collect some cash?
Someone needs to explain this to me: This whole thing got kicked off because Ned Stark figured out that Cersei was banging her brother and that Joffrey wasn’t the heir because of an in-depth historical analysis of all of the apparently VERY rigid hair color genes in Westeros. So when a Targareyan (very blond) and a…
I laughed. And I knew the science nerds would get their pocket protectors in a twist. It is possible to appreciate the magnitude of a scientific milestone without being particularly impressed with the actual “photograph” the scientists decided to hype up and then release to the public. It’s not a very exciting photogra…
I would actually be surprised if he went for Senate over a governorship. His whole thing is executive experience and the Senate seems like a bad fit for his political style. But of course it would depend on what offices are going to be winnable in the next few years and I think it’s a lot easier to establish residency…
