Wasn’t familiar with the source material but remember really enjoying the film.

Gilliam does have a point that art shouldn’t be made by committee. But we need to do something to get more representation into the arts and if it means a period whereby we are forcing diversity into the industry then so be it. Eventually, it’ll even out and the more natural approach to creating art Gilliam is aiming

Ok, he didn’t advise anyone. He told them his idea. I could email Zuckerberg on how I’d like to change Facebook but that doesn’t make me an adviser.

You can just imagine the guys working at the Joint Functional Component Command for Space. “I told you, we’re no one know we’re here. We could totally get away with launching ourselves into space and be rid of that arsebag.”

I still disagree. I’m not sure what’s goofy about it. Blade 3 is goofy.

True.

“In Wesley Snipes, Blade had a star who was willing to fully invest himself in the movie’s goofy vision” - I have issues with this line. This movie in not goofy nor is the vision. It’s fantasy, yes, but that doesn’t automatically mean goofy. We all know it’s a film, that it’s make believe, so why is Blade more goofy

X-men also borrowed the villain’s motives. The whole us vs them aspect. Being free to be open about your powers or keeping them hidden

Was really interesting podcast but not sure how it works as a movie. Mainly because...spoilers...it doesn’t have an ending. Not of the mysteries are tied up, there are no answers.

Getting a Quantum Leap vibe from that second photo. Maybe Steve will be Diana’s Al, appearing as a hologram.

The mysterious reaction to mentions of Lucille II and GOB’s Hello Darkness were the two main things I’ve taken as original comedy from the Netflix seasons. The rest is rehashing old (yet very good) jokes.

Honestly, I’d have rather not had her in than the whole green screen, acting by herself set up. She was never the funniest character and only worked when she played off Tobias - a couple only brought together by their lack of interest in raising their daughter.

Calling it now -the curse of the $2bn movie. Avatar sequels still haven’t appeared, Titanic gave us Celine Dion and Star Wars: Force Awakens was the death knell of the franchise. What next for Marvel? Destruction!

Sort of related to this is that I’m reluctant to start a series unless I know it’s a complete thing. The amount of time I’ve been burned getting into series only for them to either be cancelled or just keep going and the original story being lost. Think that’s why this show did well - you could watch it all in a night

Hmm. Don’t want to be that guy, but... he feels a little underwhelming to be Lord Asriel. Like him and think he’s a great actor - this just feels miscast. Like Clark Peters as the Master - think that’s a good touch.

I agree that’s it’s admirable. But it’s more than the controversies. The big cast is now very successful and have other commitments. Even with Netflix’s investment, the money doesn’t seem to be available to get all to commit to being free for an extended period.

I think that’s fine. But from what I gather this was above and beyond what was classed as normal and got very personal.

Also, if Marvel/Disney/etc was to hire a black/female/gay director and it didn’t work out (as with Trevrow, Trank, Wright etc) then what kind of publicity s**t storm would they face if they tried to sack them or bring in someone to fix their work as they’ve done with other directors.

Think the line “there’s a lot of men who’ve not been accused of anything that haven’t taken the time to think about this.” is really important. It’s like the whole, not all men thing. No, we’re not all sleazes, but we are in a better position to point out and call out when other men are being inapproiate

It’s interesting to hear now that Mitch and co have come out in support for Jessica Walters - after the shoot has wrapped and season premiered. Now that they no longer have to work with Tambor. Cheap move.
