The mysterious reaction to mentions of Lucille II and GOB’s Hello Darkness were the two main things I’ve taken as original comedy from the Netflix seasons. The rest is rehashing old (yet very good) jokes.

Honestly, I’d have rather not had her in than the whole green screen, acting by herself set up. She was never the funniest character and only worked when she played off Tobias - a couple only brought together by their lack of interest in raising their daughter.

Calling it now -the curse of the $2bn movie. Avatar sequels still haven’t appeared, Titanic gave us Celine Dion and Star Wars: Force Awakens was the death knell of the franchise. What next for Marvel? Destruction!

Sort of related to this is that I’m reluctant to start a series unless I know it’s a complete thing. The amount of time I’ve been burned getting into series only for them to either be cancelled or just keep going and the original story being lost. Think that’s why this show did well - you could watch it all in a night

Hmm. Don’t want to be that guy, but... he feels a little underwhelming to be Lord Asriel. Like him and think he’s a great actor - this just feels miscast. Like Clark Peters as the Master - think that’s a good touch.

I agree that’s it’s admirable. But it’s more than the controversies. The big cast is now very successful and have other commitments. Even with Netflix’s investment, the money doesn’t seem to be available to get all to commit to being free for an extended period.

I think that’s fine. But from what I gather this was above and beyond what was classed as normal and got very personal.

Also, if Marvel/Disney/etc was to hire a black/female/gay director and it didn’t work out (as with Trevrow, Trank, Wright etc) then what kind of publicity s**t storm would they face if they tried to sack them or bring in someone to fix their work as they’ve done with other directors.

Think the line “there’s a lot of men who’ve not been accused of anything that haven’t taken the time to think about this.” is really important. It’s like the whole, not all men thing. No, we’re not all sleazes, but we are in a better position to point out and call out when other men are being inapproiate

It’s interesting to hear now that Mitch and co have come out in support for Jessica Walters - after the shoot has wrapped and season premiered. Now that they no longer have to work with Tambor. Cheap move.

Loved early Arrested Development but with seasons 4 and 5 it feels like they’re trying to force the magic. Clearly not everyone gets on, people are busy and the hearts just aren’t in it. Should have either left it after season 3 or just done the film version they promised to wrap everything up

Every time I take a trip or head for a night out, I still imagine that amazing things could happen in the next X hours. They don’t but still..gotta have hope.

As a fan, I’d be happy to see various versions of the Joker on our screens. But I wouldn’t want to be the marketing department at Dc trying to sell the various films to the general public - just look at Solo.

Not sure about Miller - he’s a bit too, intentionally quirky. It’d feel a bit like the Johnny Depp version. Gosling I could see, Glover definitely. How about Glen Howerton?

Not sure I’d describe the likes of Helena Bonham Carter and Cate Blachett as “capable” - kind of underselling them a bit.

Like that the Transformers are a little more recognisable when in robot form - big chunks of metal and colour instead of the generic metal shards approach taken in the other movies.

All journalists in rom coms are like this. They get one story to work on, spending months doing it and nothing else, use little sources or actual research and write it like a teenage diary entry.

I did realise that when I started to look back and see how long ago it was since the first series. 2003! 15 years ago.

5 episodes in and two questions - what is with the awful music and what’s happened to Gob’s face?

Think the issue was that Hollywood moves and Hong Kong movies have a very different aesthetic and style. The OTT Hong Kong style just wouldn’t play in American movies. Locals loved it because it was what they were brought up with, while foreign audiences loved it because it was different and new. But if you try and
