And probably why the sequel suffered as it had all that, come together nonsense.

I feel these kind of 80s rom-coms weren’t really rom-coms, just comedies. Things like this and Splash (which has an equally weird central conceit). As a kid I loved this movie, not because of the romance but because of the jokes (and the house they lived in -thought it was awesome).

Just caught first episode, and loved it. Pretty much just Crank the TV show, right? The hospital setting, hero in a hospital gown, crazy plot device driving him forward, and anyone else note the Crank ring tone the mobster had? (I know, it’s from the director of Crank so there’s that).

“accidentally reincarnated her kids back into exsistance as Tommy Shepherd and William Kaplan” - that’s some pretty specific accidental reincarnation

Doesn’t matter whop they’re employed by, this is going to break records. Just on the sheer volume of advertising alone.

The Killer (first Hong Kong action movie I loved), The Princess Bride (still love it today), When Harry met Sally (made me realise rom coms could be good), Swingers (something I watch in my teens - even went as far as to visit the locations - i live in the UK btw)

Of course, there’s still the small matter of the lawsuit a former producer has lodged saying it can’t be released without his say so.

Sheriff Keller was my first choice for BH and seeing him mill about back stage seems a little too on the nose. Also, Archie’s dumping off the gangster life and returning to his Dad because of...what exactly, is classic Riverdale nonsense.

Not necessarily. Take When Harry Met Sally -every day romance made interesting. It’s not the story you tell, but how you tell it. It goes back to having interesting characters instead of really on interesting plot points to drive a story.

See comment below.

Then writers need to try harder. Seriously, romance does happen in real life and it doesn’t take 2 mins.

I do like him - thought he brought a bit of cocky charm to the XMen, but in rom coms he’s a bit vanilla. (Don’t class Enchanted as rom com)

Also, biggest bugbear about rom coms is that no one ever just sits down and explains themselves. They storm off, or hold it in because it’s the right thing to do, or because they’re a man and they don’t talk about feeling.

And recently in The Sinner - maybe not charismatic but definitely interesting.

Exactly. Though I always felt sorry for him in that movie - imagine being dumped for a random guy she’s never met who, in all honestly, isn’t that different from him.

The issue with a lot of rom coms is that as they’re aimed at women, the money goes on getting big female leads (hence Hathaway, Hudson, etc). But then skimps on the male leads. Which mean the men in these films are often pretty bland characters and this makes you questions the women’s motives. Bridget Jones, When

Agree. Don’t think McAvoy has the gravitas. Big Bill is meant to be a natural leader. Fassebender might have been an option.

“medium-rare-plus” sounds like the most pretentious order ever. Just order it medium rare and eat what you get. Every restaurant is different, as is every dinner and piece of meat. These states are just guides - you should allow a bit of leeway in your life.

Why don’t these giant monster ever just head to, you know, Albany? Or some mid-sized town. Just knock over the single, office building then lie down for a nap.

Kind of lacks tension when you know that the shark is going to be killed when The Stath punches it in the face.
