Agree. Unless you’ve got the next 2 films green lit and are shooting you need to make a film that stands on its own.

Do we know if the 8-part series plans to cover all three books or just the first book? I’d argue that there’enough (dark) material in the first book for 8-hours worth of TV. 3-hrs in Oxford, 2hrs in Bolvangar, then the final 3 parts in Svalbard
Agree. It’s just got too ridiculous. Archie just seems fine with having someone killed? And we’re meant to root for him? Also, add to this the fact that no one behaves like a normal human - Cheryl just inviting herself to someone’s holiday and then getting annoyed when they say no. Will I keep watching it? Of course.
Thought the casting was great across the board for the film - it was just strange decisions like making it 1hr 30mins and cutting out large chunks of important stuff that was in the books. It focussed way too much on the beginning and not enough on the back end after she leaves Oxford.
This feels very much like a Netflix algorithm film - we#’ve got a lot of Asian viewers in America. And people like Jared Leto. How can we combine the two?
Anyone actively setting out to make a ‘midnight movie’ is bound to fail.
Wonder whether this will be another Altered Carbon, or a Mute, or a Bright, or...hmm...
Netflix in UK where I’m based. While they didn’t produce it like some of their movies, it’s Netflix-exclusive here.
Han would listen to Creedence I reckon. Luke is probably either a bit emo or country. Leia don’t have time for music - she’s getting shit done.
Or an Oldman. It’s classic Oscars - he’ll do a ‘serious’ biopic at some point and get the Oscar.
That Facebook message sounds very much like he’s had some seriously bad news. Hoping he’s all ok - whether you like him or not (I like him), he’s always been fun, interesting and has been somewhat of a pioneer for indie media creation and distribution.
Fair enough. Guess it comes down to the whole what you’re willing to give (data) vs what you’re getting back (more focused recommendations) debate.
To be honest, I’ve no idea how Netflix works behind the scenes - would it benefit them to have something viewed repeatably or are they looking for films that would draw new subscribers in, even if they’re crap? Most reviews come out on the same day as the films, so if people sign up based on the hype, the reviews…
In that they are clearly moving away from relying on more nuanced review systems to a good or bad system. And the chances are that if you’ve chosen to watch something on Netflix, you’re probably going to give it a thumbs up.
Interesting that Netflix changed its rating system from 1-5stars to thumbs up or down
Finally, a Netflix movie that I’m excited about. Who’d have thought that with 3 big sci-fi movies (this, Mute and Cloverfield) as well as a big budget sci-fi series (Altered Carbon) - all with big name and proven talent behind them - only one would be worth watching.
The level of bitterness in these comments I think says more about the people and their unfulfilled dreams than her ability to give something back and do something positive.
‘So, here we are at the acid factory’
The worry is whether we’re going to be asked to feel for the Joker. Just waiting for all the interviews saying ‘We don’t see the Joker as a bad guy, just some who was forced to do bad things.’ ‘It’s more interesting to see him not as a villian but as a person’
Batman...Ahh...fighter of the Nightman..
