In a democracy, the electorate gets the leaders they deserve.

Somewhat related point, so many of these Nixon/Reagan conservatives always like to point out that the KKK and Democratic party were legitimately in cahoots for decades. But, they always seem to forget that it was Nixon’s southern strategy to bring in the dixiecrats and then Reagan’s wink and nod to racists by

We’ve been predicting the death of the republican party since W. made official the marriage between the religious fundies and the corporate interests. They aren’t going anywhere. They are masters at messaging and re-branding. By and large, they haven’t paid any lasting prices for any of their malfeasance beginning

And you can’t appeal to their constituents because they never learn. :(

THIS. I was a child during the Nixon era, and as I was reading the comparisons of Nixon/Watergate vs. Trump/Dumpster Fire I realized they are not similar because we no longer have men of conscience in positions where they can and will resign in protest and tell the truth about what is going on.

Was it a disaster, though? The GOP should’ve ended right then and there. It should’ve ended after Iran Contra, it should’ve ended after the Iraq War, and here we somehow fucking are.

And four whole Democratic Presidential administration years later the republicans and the Constitutional crisis inflicted by Nixon gave us proto-Trump. The republicans have never been adequately punished by the electorate for any of their bullshit starting with Nixon. They won’t be now. The only lesson they learned

I’ve been doing the same with Louise Mensch. From what I can tell, she’s been right on pretty much all of this.

Just realized what I’m really looking forward to. The next presidential inauguration. I wonder if Trump will even show. This shit show is beyond words.

I also recommend giving him a follow.

Wonder how the Trump Presidential Library will cover this affair.

I don’t know if anyone is keeping track of how often twitter investigators are right about these things but Claude Taylor (@truefactsstated) has been saying this for a while. I take those tweets with rather large grains of salt, because I mostly read them so that I can keep my sanity and hope that someone is doing

Counterpoint:

Since November, the national medias opinion sections have been filled with calls to seek insightor empathytowards Trump voters, along with heartwarming tales of our fundamental shared humanity.

Both atlrticles are right, tho. You have your subset of Trump supporter that is your everyday down the line -R voter who will support him so long as he isn’t a -D: older, wealthier white folks. And you have the other half (deplorables, if you will): the conspiracy breeding alt-right, Nazi white supremacist

All solid points.

Logical points.
