It definietely helps to be old enough to remember what other movies at that time looked like to appreciate a New Hope. The special effects were very good for the time, and the slower pacing was just how movies were made.

I think that would have been a bit too much of a rip-off from Blazing Saddles.

“One of the five of you” is a really strange line. WoT is extremely gender based with the magic system, are they trying to get away from that to fit a more modern audience?

I think it was easier when those stories were written for an author to make statements about the reality in his book and have readers go along with it, even if it didn’t really make sense. Suspension of disbelief.

Asimov has to be one of te easiest authors if you want to diversify characters since he seldom gives them much of a personality or background. He even makes fun of this in his “Murder at the ABA”.

Who’s going to make a movie about what was really going on and why Fogg went on his journey as described by Farmer? Alien conspiracies and lots of adventures during the hours Verne leave out in his book.

If you think GoT is brutal, try his first novel “Dying of the Light”. Not as many corpses, but that’s only because there are far fewer people involved in the story.

I have to say I side with Kimber. There are going to be millions of people trying to survive for the day, solve short term problems, and it’s all for nothing if they can’t reproduce. Having a few “cold hearted” people who ignore the immedate problems in favor of handling the long term crisis is necessary.
