I agree it does NOT release the second parent from their duty to care for the child. My point is that the FIRST parent to abandon a child gets very little repercussion, if any, while the second parent gets ALL the responsibility. A parent who abandons a child should face consequences when something bad happens to

“unless they go completely off the grid” — nope, just, for example (one that I’ve seen with my own eyes), work as a mechanic on a “cash only” basis. It’s very easy to shirk any responsibility.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the mother should get serious jail time. HOWEVER, in child abuse/neglect cases, I’ve long thought that authorities should track down the absent parent as well, and charge them with something. Because society has set it up so that the parent who takes off first and ditches all

I think minorities need to band together and only patronize minority-owned establishments. I know it will be inconvenient at first because there are probably very few to chose from for any given good or service. But eventually, there will be more. To me it’s a single, small, large-term approach to consider in

They’re all flight risks, and we let them get on a place and flee the country?

If you’re actually worried about flipping over, get a roll bar. Anything to protect your life is better than nothing.

It will certainly taste better. But maybe, just maybe, the author didn’t want to end up weighing 239 pounds.

D’oh!

I question whether he took the bus ride at all. The whole experience seems made up to me.

In my town, the latest reason to tack on another $3.00 is “reserved seating.”

“if one can’t say that our justice system is flawless, then any permanent punishment (such as death), should be off the table” — But why? We accept deaths in other situations where we cannot say the system is flawless. We still fight wars even though we know innocent people will be killed; we approve drugs that

Why would she want to leave? She knew what kind of person he was before she married him. She gets money in exchange for being a trophy wife. As long as he doesn’t cut off her money, he’s keeping his end of the bargain.

I’m just curious — when there’s no sign of trauma, I can understand how the police would lean towards “no foul play.” But how do they then jump to suicide instead of accident? I’m not familiar with the location, so maybe the physical layout of the area makes accident unlikely?

If only Jonathan was armed . . .

Exactly! It used to be that we gave police officers respect and perquisites because they put themselves in danger to protect the rest of us. But now days, it seems the police are willing to sacrifice any number of civilians to protect themselves. So they take the pay and perks, but don’t display any of the bravery

Your vainglorious boasting will only add savor to their inevitable triumph.

That’s Mel Torme singing “Charlie.” To many kids like me, that was the first time we heard of Mel Torme.

I’m sure most Americans are much more likely to be killed by their own kind. And I think that is true for all “levels” — more likely to be killed by an American; but also more likely to be killed by a member of your own race; and also more likely to be killed by a member of your own family even. Yet the government

My brother works in China. According to him, most Chinese students (in the cities, anyway) learn English as a second language. For a third language, they tend to pick Japanese, German, or Korean. Almost none of them learn Spanish. But they all focus mostly on math and sciences over languages. This is just one

My wife leaves it on the counter, still in the rice cooker, for days. She tells me it’s safe to eat if it still “smells” ok. Now I have to wonder - is she trying to kill me? (As a side question, is there still a concern about the level of arsenic in rice?)
