My girlfriend (now fiance) and I were driving her parents rusty ‘01 4runner back from a friend’s Thanksgiving in the Middle of Nowhere, New Hampshire. This could lead to a MB Sprinter situation to circumvent the Chicken Tax. MB fully assembles Sprinters in Germany, pulls the engine and transmission, and ships them to the Carolinas as separate units for reassembly. The additional cost was found to be much less than just paying the tax.
