A correction: I believe Skullgirls is owned by Autumn Games, the company that originally published the game. As far as I know, it was never sold to 505 Games.

I disagree with the implication that Alpha Protocol’s writing is on such a lower level. To the contrary: I believe it is an excellent example of writing that responds brilliantly to player agency. It is certainly less serious or “deep” than P:ST, but that’s because that’s the way it was meant to be. The game is a…
Budgets aren’t really that good an excuse. Age of Decadence was made by enthusiasts (the studio’s leader, who goes by the pseudonym “Vince D. Weller, decided to start developing his own RPGs because almost no one else was making them to his liking anymore. He also goes by “Vault Dweller” on the Codex), with almost no…
I completely disagree with Avellone being overrated. He worked on these subpar games you mentioned, but most of his contributions were excised; this was even one of the reasons his relationship with Obsidian was so adversarial. Interestingly enough, the bits of his writing that DID make it through were often the best…
Maybe I’ve become jaded, but I can’t really bring myself to share your optimism when it comes to Inxile’s and Obsidian’s current capabilities - especially in regards to Obsidian, whose best names are all gone (I still haven’t gotten over Chris Avellone’s departure). The only ones left are Josh Sawyer, Tim Cain and…
You’ve got to understand, I LOVE CRPGs. They are one of the main reasons I got into gaming (the other ones being Nintendo games and visual novels), which is why I expect so much from them. The fact that the last few years have given us lots of gems (such as the ones I mentioned in my other post) only enhances that…
No Alex Ahad. Absolutely expected, but whelp.
Inxile has not made a single game I’d consider anything more than “good enough”. Numenera was a massive disappointment and the two Wastelands were just serviceable. Everything else was just fluff.
Disco Elysium is a masterpiece, in my view. Best writing I’ve seen in a RPG since Planescape: Torment. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kurvitz became the most legitimate successor to Chris Avellone. I also love Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Underrail and Age of Decadence.
I am a hardcore CRPG fan. To be utterly frank, I found the two of them severely disappointing. Pillars of Eternity 2 was a little better than its predecessor, but is still bogged down by Sawyer’s “balance” philosophy.
Judging from the writing quality of Outer Worlds, I wouldn’t want present day Obsidian anywhere near Fallout. Granted, they’d probably make something better than Bethesda’s lifeless theme parks, but the studio that gaves us New Vegas is long gone.
Nerfnow is actually pretty funny as long as you read the previous two strips he published.
Heretic. Refrigerator-senpai is a murderer.
I just wish he would make more of those short skits. It’s been months since the last one.
That’s extremely common with announcements of unfinished games. It is not embarrassing at all.
I am brazilian. Please do not EVER call me a Latinx. “Latino” is already bad enough, since it is an incredibly superficial term that does no justice to the cornucopia of non anglo-saxon cultures that exist in America (not talking about the US). “Latinx” is just a term created by anglo-saxons that sounds ridiculous in…
Yeah. For a studio who used to have writers like Chris Avellone and John Gonzalez in their ranks, it is depressing how low their writing has sunk.
I mean, that’s fine. To each their own. And, as I said in other posts in this thread, I don’t exactly find the game bad - just mediocre, which I find disappointing, given the names involved.
Did you hear the post I made immediately after your first message?
From the post I just made:
