What’s new though? This happens in Singapore (and probably every single street-based F1 circuit) every year.

At least in Singapore they actually hold it in downtown where there are few, if any, residential areas, but the shopping malls see business dry up significantly during F1 week. They’ve been complaining about it

In quite a lot of countries, if you’re carrying a large amount of cash, you need to make a prior declaration before arrival. Maybe that should be something that can be applied for inter-state travel?

I would say by and large, for the majority of the population, the public transportation system is generally good enough to serve the needs of most. But there are always situations when you will need a car, like say if you need to drive your young kids or aged parents out.

You CAN make the airport into a destination to visit (Singapore is probably the best example of this). But the general public should be restricted to the areas before security.
