I can neither confirm nor deny...

I'll need some evidence that they're not reliable. I haven't had any issues.

Well...the article asked "What's the best external hard drive" not "what's the cheapest external hard drive" so my vote is still Drobo. Since I'm storing business data, I need high reliability, not low price.

Have you ever tried using a SATA to USB adapter on a RAID array in any other enclosure? You're going to have similar problems. Sure, Drobos are more expensive than a WD passport, but they're also bigger and actually have redundancy. If you're going for a cheap, external hard drive, just use that SATA to USB adapter.

And when your usb key dies, do you pop the chips out and put it in a different brand of usb key and hope to read it?

I connect mine over Firewire800. It doesn't even have an ethernet jack.

I nominated Drobo for you. I love mine.

Vote: Drobo

Costs 27x as much and holds a whole lot less.

I'm just saying it would be a problem for me. It's like saving the change from cash purchases just encourages you to make untrackable cash purchases instead of using a card so you can see where your money went.

I don't think I've ever seen a glass cutting board that was smooth enough for me to want to use it for pastry. But you make a decent point.

The marble ones anyway.

I very much appreciated your "avoid them in the first place." I cringe every time I see one of these. And every time someone uses one, I die a little.

That's a big if for someone who needs help building up their savings.

The problem with this (for me) is that it would encourage me to make discretionary purchases. "I don't need a $100 subwoofer...but I'd be saving $100 for my retirement if I bought it!"

For marble, glass, or other hard cutting surfaces: Soap and water will do the trick, and a bleach solution to sanitize. These surfaces can be really hard on your knives, so try to avoid them in the first place.

The videos that automatically play that aren't ads are bad enough. This upsets me.

I hate the bullshit that women have to deal with.

For most whiskey drinks, you can get by with a bottle of Old Overholt rye and a bottle of Bulleit bourbon. They're both high-quality and very reasonably priced. (Bulleit also makes a rye.)
