@PIKITIS!!: I wish I could offer useful advice, but all I can say is that I empathize with being in an impossible situation, and it fucking sucks. I'm so sorry!

Watching Clueless in the future will always be tinged with the tragedy of today, but it's proof that she was a deft comedienne—and her work on King of the Hill was really transcendental. It's very sad that her life was cut short, but I hope she has peace where she is now.

@Plum-Pie: I adapted a very simple recipe from Scarpetta's that incorporated more wine into the mix, though for this time around I sauteed a bulb of thinly sliced fennel (with olive oil and salt) before adding the tomatoes and all of the liquid that comes into the cans. I wanted it to be extra-saucy to accomodate the

@Ms Meghan is Reppin' the Triforce: I am seriously impressed with making soft pretzels—that's on my list of things to eventually try. As for "failures," the only real failure in the kitchen is when you give up and stop trying.

@all: Those all sound like awesome meals!

Has anyone made any particularly delicious food this weekend?

Congratulations!!!!

@NellMood: This is a great question, as my super is also live-in, but I am a regular at the wine shop he also owns a few blocks away—would it be weird to tip?

@LaComtesse: My husband saw Emeril make this on an old episode of Emeril Live! and now he really wants to make it himself.

In happier news, December 5th is also Repeal Day, aka the anniversary of when Prohibition was ended: [www.repealday.org]

I'm not a big fan of Thanksgiving dinner, thanks in part to an incident when I was 16 and threw up after a meal with Thanksgiving contents due to a stomach bug, but I don't care, because tonight I had my Thanksgiving dinner: roasted duck with figs, red wine and toasted bread, with a few stuffed mushrooms as an

It's been a good day. My husband is out of town for the weekend, so I'm being productive in his absence: I cleaned the apartment top-to-bottom, did yoga, chatted with a friend over the phone, went shopping (just for some things for dinner as well as indulging in some new comfy lounge clothes), and for dinner I made

@GirlFailer: My husband is notorious for spilling/breaking wineglasses, which is why we normally drink out of little juice glasses like little old Italian men. #giantwineglass

Well done ladies!

THC is much like the Food Network for me—so many of the hosts lack the intellect, charm and/or personality to draw me in and leave the channel on for hours and hours on weekends like I used to. The established people are phoning it in now (especially Giada and Ina), the upstarts are uninspired, schticky and/or

@CynicalPink: The trailer for 2012 gave me freaking vertigo, it was so intense. Until the USS Kennedy crashed into the White House(!). #openthread

@WhineAndCheese: I was unemployed for about eight months (part of that was during my wedding/honeymoon, which totally impeded the job-getting process) a year ago, and honestly, that's what got me cooking simple things on a regular basis—maybe I received a few rejection emails that day, but my focaccia was fucking

We finally had a gorgeous Saturday to go to the Union Square Greenmarket, and I was so thrilled to get some great pictures, as well as fabulous produce that I subsequently ate tonight.
