So all of that has to be prepped months in advance, and yet companies can continue to stall the actual release date over and over and over. How is a continuously shifting release date better than not having a firm date in the first place?

If you don’t own or haven’t played Shadow Complex, you really need to. It’s arguably one of the best games of the 360/PS3 era and the remaster was phenomenally executed.

I don’t think its silly at all. There is no reason why this is inherently more difficult for Sony that it is Microsoft. The examples you point out here are technical, and can be solved internally. Game suspend, name changes, transferring data, those are problems that have relatively simple solutions in the micro…

It goes along with Sony’s thinking of a clean generational break. They have done that every console generation, and were probably planning on doing it again. I think they were caught unaware of just how OK people are with an extended cross generational period, and just how many are planning on sticking with their PS4s…

It seems like both of these companies excel when there’s strong competition between them.
