Dear god the level of stupidity in that tweet is mind numbing.

No, rolling true means the balls are rolling on the line they were putted on, not bouncing up and down and left and right because the greens are bumpy.

Well, that’s just like your opinion man.

No where does my logic imply that any one could have won the US Open. Putting is still only less than half of the strokes in a given round. As I explained elsewhere, the greens aren’t going to be a great equalizer because they’re shitty. The great golfers are still going to be great golfers and they’ll be there on

Intentional.

Well putting is only 50% of the gamegame, the other facets were rather unaffected by thethe bumpy greens conditions (maybe approach shots slightly, but not really).

The only way to ensure fairness is for balls to roll true. Bouncing balls like we saw all weekend are unpredictable, and therefore take the skill out of putting.

Clearly not that well known, but well-known nonetheless, and relevant in the context...we’re all gonna get laid isn’t exactly relevant.

I respectfully disagree. When greens are bouncing like these were, it’s not the same for every player. Some players might have their balls bounce more than others, and it’s wildly unpredictable. Maybe the bounces even out, but probably not. And you can’t guarantee the bounces even out. If the greens are difficult, but

I agree that people will whine just to whine. That doesn’t mean that whining isn’t accurate once in a while. And if you’ve ever golf before, and you watched the way these balls were bouncing on the greens, not rolling like they should, but bouncing, you know that these greens were shit, and completely unbecoming of a

The longer 2nd part is an explanation. To the extent that an explanation of a topic to someone who might not understand that topic is inherently going to get people to hate me, than yes, I guess your point still stands...

I think if you asked any player in the Open this year, they’d play every US Open on Pebble’s greens before they ever came back here. I’ve heard the gripes about Pebble’s greens, but those issues were extremely minor relative to this disaster.

No. Every course gives an advantage to certain players. Chambers Bay favored long players. Merion a few years back favor accurate players.

It’s a movie quote...it was meant in jest, not to be condescending.

You’re obviously not a golfer man.

You’re obviously not a golfer man.

Exactly. CBS does the usual, watch the swing and immediately switch to a closeup of the ball in flight that tells you absolutely nothing. After I see where the ball lands, I can generally care less what path it took to get there...it’s either good or bad at that point. The shot tracker from the tee is such a better

I know this was Faxon. I was making a general commentary on the coverage. Faxon wasn’t great, but he was better than Norman and Buck.

We all know Joe Buck sucks and Greg Norman was brutal. But in defense of Fox, they did a lot of shit right. I loved having a quality golf course architect on the crew (though he was underutilized). The shot tracker on every tee shot was pure gold. Way better than the usual bullshit ball flight shots you get that show

It’s not a milestone, no way, we just try to collect all the balls that enter thethe stands.
