I’ve been singing this tune for years. Genre is useful but it shouldn’t limit the scope of what is considered “important”. Some of the greatest works of all time are arguably genre. It really comes down to the writer and their ability to craft a work beyond the norm. The subject matter can be anything.

Seriously, I pretty much began hard-core reading because of Game of Thrones, but even I think this is easily the best thing GRRM ever did. It’s short and concise, and beautiful.
