Stupid question, but has there been a defined genre for what Red Dwarf, Futurama, Cowboy Bebop and Firefly are? I'm sure there is more in sci-fi writing. Star Trek is the prototype, but these are basically a deconstruction of those cliches. All center around a cobbled together "family" of working class space

Yeah, as good as some of the other series can be, they really lose points for not having Norman Lovett.
