Considering I love the likes of Elvis Costello and Leonard Cohen, I feel like I shouldn't have a problem with Randy Newman, but I find him grating too. I guess there's a fine line between sounding world-weary and being your parent's music.

This guy. That was the one album he did that really could have been fantastic, but it's done in with too much bitching about how everyone else in his life has caused him misery (other than Yoko)  while ignoring how awful he could be capable of.
