I’m surprise a system like that isn’t armed with laser sensors to see if something is in the way. The same way your average garage won’t shut if you walk past while it’s shutting.

This. Light sensors have been used for decades. Something about this story is weird from a mechanical standpoint.

My parents always used the proven hang a tennis ball from a string trick when I was a kid.

There should’ve been a system that makes sure that if anything is in the path of the mechanism, it should stop. I blame everyone but I assign the majority of it on the manufacturer because my $100 garage door opener has sensors to make sure I don’t crush my dog or bag of groceries.

All this for an issue that could have been solved with a $0.99 plastic tube mounted to the parking platform... hit the tube? Too far forward! Back up!
