Well 50mpg to 37mpg is 13mpg, these cars dropped 4mpg. It sucks but it’s nowhere near as big of a deal than the Civic Hybrids.

You’d be surprised but mattress can be quite thick and heavy (I move furniture as my teen job, so I know a thing about how they feel). Hitting one of those at high speeds...it would do some serious undercarriage damage and could lock up your wheels.

Just get an LS1 F-body. Same price as the 944, but 0-60 in 5.0 seconds, much more reliable and cheaper/easier to fix, and it has a 6-speed manual instead of a 5-speed. Plus, it’s a loud, roaring V8 and is just as practical as a 944 with it’s hatchback.
