I wholeheartedly agree. Anytime I re-watch either of those films (and The Matrix as someone else mentions below), I am always impressed with how well the special effects hold up.

I think The Matrix (only the first one) does the same.

The Muppet movies! Practical effects hold up. CGI, not usually. Jurassic Park is mostly good, but some of the CGI is showing its age. Still love it, though.

Singer is clearly referring to having Sentinels in DoFP, that's already been rumored. His work on Giant Slayer should already have base started for the CGI.
