“Kevin Spacey did NOT receive Academy Awards for ...American Beauty”
I think I agree with both of you, but his BE doofus really grew on me by the end. And his boringness in HoC made me appreciate his character work more.
No, I don’t think Netflix was necessarily looking out for the crew though they may want to continue working with the producing company. And since large amounts of the show are shot in the DC/Maryland region those workers don’t necessarily have a pick of things to work on. Especially with David Simon working in New…
The fact that the number of people who work on the show who haven’t attempted to assault a teenager and then fantastically fuck up a response to it is pretty massive, creating a project that continues their work and cuts out the piece of shit who did seems like not just good business, but a decent move.
He was only entertaining when I imagined his Boardwalk Empire character in the scenes.
My brother-in-law owned an arcade in a tiny Texas town right then. He thought the price was ridiculous. I worked for him the summer before high school and sunk my entire earnings into “investing” in a Dig Dug machine. It was not the runaway success I hoped it would be.
I remember watching two adult guys play and but I can’t remember if they beat it or just got farther than I ever imagined possible. I believe one of them probably had a bitchin’ Camaro outside. My own experiences were like Sean’s. It was just an expensive reminder off my inadequacy.
“Don’t Fear the Reaper” also works as a tribute to HALLOWEEN, where it plays on the car radio as Annie and Laurie drive to their babysitting gigs.
I envy you having that ahead of you. Not that replaying isn’t fun. Just nothing beats the first go-through.
It is interesting that every iteration of the story puts the house (which is suddenly enormous) onto palatial plots of land instead of a regular suburban street.
That’s new to me too. Thanks again!
Shandling also had the great musical episode with the kid deciding whether to lose his virginity or not. He decides not to and the chorus bursts in.
Love the last two, haven’t heard of the first two and am thanking you for that.
The Kaufman is my favorite version for many reasons, but you’re right to underline the beauty of the original. I also love that the remake doesn’t negate the existence of the original. In a sense, it’s just the original picking up a couple decades later; McCarthy running wild trying to warn a world that won’t listen.
Agree. Never skip the Hawks. Regardless of its quality as an adaptation (it’s barely an adaptation), it’s still a well-crafted sci-fi/horror film, not to mention the first film to use the theremin in its score.
What? You don’t like critique coming from a foregone conclusion and then filtered through annoying irony? Are you some kind of deviant?
Exactly. It was chilling. It was also the moment I’d sort of been waiting for. Since this series sort of feels like a 10-hour sister to Zodiac, I was wondering if there would be a moment as terrifying as Gyllenhall in the basement with Roger Rabbit. “Is there someone else in the house?” Turns out we got that…
Yep. I see half-hour sitcoms that are treated with more insight and critique than this show, which is at least attempting something to varying degrees off success. (Though I’m a bit biased because a friend of mine is one of the writers.)
Thanks!
Doubt it was intended but they’re almost perfect set-ups for that final story. You’re almost dead from boredom and here comes the fetish doll!
