I'm all for an easy way to keep drivers up to date, but doesn't Windows Update do that already?

Windows 7 users note - AVG free seems to interfere with homegroup sharing. I had to remove it from my home premium system before that system could become visible to the rest of my homegroup. For the time being I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials instead, and homegroup is working fine.

I just read the news story - apparently the car in the crash was a dealer loaner, which had a floor mat that was not the right shape/size (it came from an older model Lexus).

I visit New York City every year or two and I remember I started seeing these things maybe 5-7 years ago, mainly on taxis. They look godawful, but no worse than a dinged up bumper, and taking one of these off before trade-in time is probably cheaper than fixing a bumper.

I've been using stick-on glitter stars for the same purpose - they're easier to see if you're in the car, and they are also handy for things like the on/off buttons on cordless phones at home (which can be hard to see in the dark), or for when you have to talk your non-techie spouse through turning something on or off

Dear Iowa police and news team: It's the 21st century, color photography has been around for a while now, you might want to look into it!

Sad news. But no cars were involved, and so far as is known right now, none of the victims are car-celebrities - so why does this warrant a mention here on Jalopnik?

My Scion tC has that same wrinkly skin/tree bark material on the dash, and I've also seen it in the Prius. It's almost as hard as a rock, and it scratches really easily.

Until now in Gmail I had simply been tagging emails as "TO DO" and had a filter that would automatically tag emails that had TO DO in the subject line. Overall, the new Tasks thing isn't way better than that - yet.

Future topics we can now expect on Lifehacker: How to use a light switch, how to take a shower, how to tie your shoes, how to go potty.

I drink my wine-in-a-box out of a jelly jar.

Dear Lifehacker: I have an app that will find you true love, bring you unlimited wealth, and make you live forever. The catch is, it might not work on your computer. But don't worry, I'm sure it'll work for *somebody*, so please post about it!

$2 for a cat or dog or bird app I can see - but for a fish? Come on, you can get a new fish for $2!

I get some paper towel, fold it into a small wedge, spray windex on it, and run it between the keys. I guess that still leaves all sorts of gross crud down underneath the keys, but you know what they say - "out of sight, out of mind".

'Giant' beard? It was very, very black (I always suspected he died it), but it was pretty average sized for a beard.

Does [LinkedIn.com] count as 'less reputable'? I don't know if they still offer this, but sometime last year they did allow you to invite people from your Google contacts - and when I tried to use it, it messed up and sent invites to every single person in my contacts, instead of only the people I was trying to

I keep my recipes in GMail. I've created a filter that looks for 'recipe' in the subject line, and then tags labels the message 'Recipes'. I like this approach because it's totally automatic, portable, and makes it simple to search for ingredients I have on hand - I just use GMail search.

Step 3 is confusing - "Call the police if the auto accident involves damage, injury or death.". Don't all accidents by definition involve damage, and therefore shouldn't you ALWAYS call the police?

I wrote a simpler program like this a few years ago - www.locatepc.com - and I did try to make it hide itself better by using a random but generic-sounding process name.

Maybe (but probably not): Which type of Tracfone you have (GSM vs. CDMA) depends on where you live. If your Tracfone is GSM it might work outside the USA, but possibly only with a new SIM card. However, I'm guessing that swapping the SIM card isn't a solution, because if Tracfone allowed that, then everyone would buy
