RIP.
RIP.
I'm waiting for him to change his name from "Tyler Perry" to "Tyler Perry Presents Tyler Perry's Tyler Perry".
Spielberg could probably get away with it.
Finally watched CLOUD ATLAS after putting it off for ages. The Wachowskis can stumble, but when they're firing on all cylinders they get something truly sublime.
YOU'RE A FAT LOSER AND YOU HAVE BODY ODOR.
Only if it's a crossover with THE MASTER.
I could see that, but it doesn't stand out to me the way the others do. The first looks and feels like a De Palma movie. The second is clearly Woo, even if it's him doing that crappy early-2000s action shtick (see also: xXx, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, DAREDEVIL). And the third is clearly the prototype for JJ's style in…
Weirdly, I think the only one that doesn't showcase the director's style is GHOST PROTOCOL, even though I like that one the best. Brad Bird's direction in that one could be best described as crisp and clear, but also not particularly stylish.
Sounds like a Syndicate mission if I ever saw one.
I think that's precisely what makes it work. You're sitting there, enjoying this taut, paranoid De Palma movie, and then everything goes COMPLETELY BATSHIT CRAZY. I love the shit out of it.
Haven't seen ROGUE NATION yet, but having rewatched the series recently, the rest of the rankings are spot-on. The first film might actually have the best climax, though.
Holee Jesus.
I always really enjoyed the beat where Renner and Patton helped him back into the room, and Pegg comes in and they're all exhausted.
I take it Cruise was actually underwater, then? Now I'm really looking forward to this one.
It's one of the few times I actually shelled out the extra bucks for IMAX (along with INTERSTELLAR). Will probably go in for this one and THE FORCE AWAKENS, too.
Hopefully he'll be busy making KINGSMAN 2.
Cruise is a guy who genuinely cares about making moviegoers happy. He really just wants people to enjoy his films. That's good enough for me.
I'm sort of terrified of the borderline suicidal stunt Cruise might be cooking up for the next movie. He already climbed the tallest manmade structure in the world and hung off the side of a plane. Short of, you know, actually putting himself in mortal peril or actually killing himself, what can he possibly do next?
Michael Mann.
