It is most definitely still too high. With the general increase in the age of mothers there needs to be more awareness and training among hospital staff.

My husband was so scared by seeing how much I bleed out he was hesitant about having another baby: I’ll never forget him saying, “you didn’t see what I saw. It scarred me.”

But older mothers are the norm in most Western countries where the mortality rate is less than half. There are other factors at play here. My money is on the economic inequality and implicit bias that is more entrenched in American healthcare which limits which women get good care and which get shitty care.

Looking through a few states, the highest mortality rate is in the 35-44 year old age groups. In the 70's average maternal age was much lower.

That is an excellent point to make. I also wonder if there are more deaths with home birth. I understand that some people want to go that route but while the overall risk is low, if blood transfusions are needed it is better to be in a hospital where it is available.

Absolutely. Educate yourself and never settle for a doctor who makes you feel uneasy. I’m preggo with my 3rd, and gearing up for my 3rd natural birth. It’s not for everyone, but nobody fucks up a healthy labor and delivery like an overzealous doctor these days. For the record, I do give birth in the hospital (I’m not

And to think my mom yelled at me (when I was 35) because I bought a house that had more than one bathroom. "Anything beyond one bathroom is keeping up with the Joneses! Stop showing off!"

I am someone who was saved from bleeding to death due to undiagnosed placenta accreta leading to hemorrhage and a blood transfusion that saved my life post birth. If you’re curious as to how simple it can be to save a woman from bleeding to death post birth, I can tell you it is as simple as having a hemorrhage medica

I’ve had forced-birthers argue to me that women don’t die in childbirth anymore so we don’t need abortion because pregnancies should just be carried to term and the babies given up for adoption. It doesn’t occur to them that pregnancy can still be a death sentence for so many women.

A continuation is automatically significantly more interesting to me than a reboot. So this is a good sign.

I’ve read/heard somewhere years ago; “The most dangerous medical condition for women is pregnancy.” Which is what makes the ‘pro-life’ (anti Roe v Wade) movement head-slam enraging when reading how these numbers continue to worsen (in the US). Take some of that extra energy and thought and put it toward this you

I’m fine with something set in the universe but don’t name the slayer Buffy. Name her whatever you want, cast whoever you want. Just don’t reboot the buffy name.

As an old school punk rocker, albeit not from NYC, I am appalled! lol, but not really. Every thing that once was has already been ruined. :::old man fit shake:::

My BFF works for Dolly and keeping this one a secret has been KILLING HER (Us- you know she told me.)!

So many great lines but this is my fave;

Heart Attack” has been stuck in my head since I learned the news about Demi.

What do you talk about with a lover whomst is 17 years your junior? What do these dates look like? Is he like, “Tell me about rotary phones, Heid” and “How did you find your way here from Germany without Google Maps?”

I’m here for it.

FUCK CHRISTMAS IN JULY

Yes, thanks. I actually am a lawyer myself and understand that. I was just not clear on why these tapes were not covered by the privilege in this situation. Per the CNN story that I later read and posted above it seems that in the investigation into Cohen a special master was appointed to review which
