I hate the comparison of comparing getting the full power out of your EV to getting a “tune” on your gas car. For an ICE engine engineering has to balence multiple aspects of an engine, economy, NVH, driveability, reliability, and power. It’s a balancing act.

7k towing is just right for a midsize imo. I know the ranger can do 8 but my work truck was a v6 f150 and i’m not sure how “driveable” it would feel towing more than 6k anyway.

that is only 425 dollars and it includes an intake and spark plugs so at approximately $200 in parts and usb to obd cable (60 for spark plugs, 140 for the intake) The fee is significantly lower here for and even more incremental increase in performance. You sort-of have a point that engineering has to balance a tune for efficiency, performance, confort, driveability. Providing “max power” would be detriment to some of those other aspects of a drivetrain.

not necessarily.  Like the plant in mexico that makes the honda fit/hrv they just stopped making fits to exclusively make the HRVs. the hrv costs pennies more to make but they can charge $8,000 more for one!
