The thing about racists is that they NEED to be seen sharing their racism with others. It’s why racists will wait til all the people of color are out of a room before looking around and leaning in to another person they HOPE is racist and then dropping some shit on them to see how they respond.

This is 100% true. When I was working in the film industry, I would hear a lot about the writers for shows like Law and Order and pro-cop shows, and how bummed they often were about having to write these cop characters who are in the wrong, but have to be vindicated by the script.

The key is just their latest excuse. The whole point of them being so quiet since the shooting is to try to find something that can cover up their cowardice, so “We needed to wait for the key” was their most recent attempt, which was easily batted away with “The doors weren’t locked.”
