This is true. It takes the brain about 45 minutes to fully switch from focusing on one task to another. People *think* they can multitask, but generally they can’t. It’s just that the bar is set pretty low, and there’s a lot of details you can miss while still handling the concept of whatever it is you need doing. 

The “alpha/beta(and now /sigma)” thing is definitely popular on the internet among either trolls or maybe people who have some sort of disability when it comes to interacting with people regularly, and need some ‘box’ to put people in to make sense of them.
