Oof. We’ve said for decades that we want games to be treated seriously as media, that they’re just as deserving of praise as movies, television, print, and other forms of art.

I would still like to see this paired with more deescalation training. Having a database full of people who might be targets for swatting is a good tool, but it all still ultimately boils down to the judgement of officers in high-tension situations.

EA hosted threw the event. The assertion is that EA was responsible to provide more/better security at the event since they were largely paying for it.

Alternatively the argument is that SOMEBODY responsible for the event had a duty to provide better security to protect those in attendance and did not do so.

Increased security tends to increase the rates that said security harass people of color. The TSA pulls more POC aside for “random” checks. Traffic cops pull over POC more often for trivial traffic stops. Building security will ask POC more often whether they belong there.

I think that’s the point he’s trying to make. That if the shooter is indeed white, then politicians will instead of focusing on the gun fetishment problem in America, focus entirely militarizing security, which will indoubtedly lead to an increasing of harassment towards Black people, brown people, “anyone not white,”…
