I hate watching sports. I hate watching movies about sports even more.

Yeah, I guess my memory of Steubenville is what prompted my comment. It's obscene with what some of these athletes get away with. I didn't know that about the wiki page, though... I guess if you don't want your town to get a bad reputation for treating rape victims like shit, then simply don't treat rape victims like…
"women"
Canada, but close.
"You're an idiot."
From your other comments I gather you are an entitled shithead neckbeard. HOWEVER, I will point out that that the science to do this would take way, way, way longer than 10 years to develop. 10 years off? Give me a break. But for the record, I'm a feminist, and I would love to use an artificial womb to avoid getting…
Question: do Americans actually give a shit about high school athletes? Reading that someone was a "star" high school athlete sounds silly to me. Like who gives a fuck - it's high school.
Don't really need this many Beyonce stories tbh
Sorry but that's just not true. People with Down Syndrome do not have normal IQs, cannot live independently, and most are unable to finish high school. A physical disability that leaves the intellect intact is completely different. Unless your definition of "normal" is radically different from mine.
SCIENCE. WRITER. PLS.
I still think it's clear that a large proportion of people would not want to bring to term a pregnancy with a fetus they knew had Down Syndrome, but I agree that there is probably a sizeable number of people who choose not to get tested because they wouldn't abort either way.
Eh, it would meet the definition of catastrophic if it were an acquired injury. It's definitely not a good thing.
Mmmm I think it's catastrophic by many people's standards. Clearly not everyone agrees with you there, given how many people opt to abort children with Down Syndrome. Read the rest of the comments. And if by mild, you mean an IQ under 70, meeting the medical definition of mental retardation, then yes, sure. The…
Wow. Thank you for sharing your story, that was pretty moving. My grandmother was a special needs teacher and hearing about the difficulties she had in getting children mainstreamed or trying to help them carve out meaningful lives for themselves and get the social/governmental/educational support they needed is…
I assume you meant "abort". And yeah, why not? I would not be uncomfortable bringing that up in conversation, nor would I be uncomfortable admitting that I have no issue with the idea of selective abortion, or abortion of any kind, at any time, for any reason. I would also admit that I myself would have an abortion if…
Well, I agree that abandoning a disabled infant is shitty but I don't see what's wrong with aborting a 4 month old fetus for having Down Syndrome. I'm serious - explain it to me. Would you not even consider it?
That rate is for the US, the 90%+ figure is for Europe. It is probably low. It is not by all accounts representative of rates in other developed countries that have better access to abortion than the US does. I read the paper you got that stat from - it is a meta-analysis. Some states had rates as low as 61%, some as…
Parents ought to have the right to terminate a pregnancy if they find out their child has a serious genetic abnormality, which is what Down Syndrome is. People are also far more likely to abort a child who is likely to have problems with the brain or CNS, and I think for good reason. I'm sorry this upsets you, and…
LOL pretty sure that's the point I just made in response to YOUR comment.
Several people have mentioned this. I think the point still stands for surrogacy within developed countries with access to abortion.
