Preach on, brother.

Presser had to build scripts that managed to turn PDFs and images into usable .txt files, a very labor-intensive task.”
Oof.. well the use of automated and unmanaged script OCR on massloads of data, yea thats gotta be some sweet quaity. Probably explains some dodgy results on its own.

Intellectual Poverty, like copyright, is a cancer. It rots and decays culture and technology. “Planned obsolesence” and so many other problems are rooted in this broken and utterly unnatural concept. Copyright was created for the express purpose of censorship and control by authorities

Gee, it’s nice to know we have these stalwart heroes protecting the rights of the bourgeoisie while they grind the workers down to dust./s

What type of a screwed up world do we live in where you need to pirate books? What next - A ban on Shakespeare? A protest on teaching reading? Shutting down libraries for giving people easy access to these book? “Pirating books” was absurd, yet that’s our current reality, what other absurd concept will be the next

Fuck Uber, and fuck Lyft. While we’re at it, fuck Airbnb, too.

Let them fucking leave. The gig/on-demand economy is a poison which has hollowed out cities, pushed wages down, filled the streets with delivery vehicles and Ubers parked in crosswalks and bike lanes, driven rents up, ruined neighbourhoods close to tourist attractions, and turned local governments into the feckless

Generative AI is being used everywhere and it never proposed to be the solution to people being shitty. It’s just a tool that makes your daily work less tedious. People were falling for scams long before even the invention of electricity, it’s not the tool’s fault.

They are almost certainly bluffing, yes.

But capitalism!  If we’re not making money off of it, what’s the point?!!!?!!!?

Or leave it exclusively to those with big pockets. Yeah, that always worked out well.

Meh. Let em die. Uber is now more expensive than a cab where I live anyway. What used to be a $24 ride to the airport is now roughly $46, while a cab has always been $32. It was nice while it lasted, but worker’s rights are more important to me than bargain basement prices.

Minneapolis resident here: Mayor frey, a spineless dork, is probably going to veto this.

That said Uber and Lyft built a business around exporting major costs and risks of a taxi service onto their frontline labor and have only managed to stick around because of massive infusions of cheap credit predicated upon *some

Since Uber and Lyft entered the market, drivers have worked in an almost completely unregulated work environment with often very low wages and essentially no workers’ rights

Yes... let’s hinder a technology that could be huge benefit for mankind. lol

$.51 is nuts. I was driving in nashville and between uber and lyft I was getting paid 75% of the time. and was averaging 6 miles each hour. Is Nashville just a lot more lucrative?

Ed, I don’t know who is editing your articles lately, but all of Gizmodo’s title are getting very confusing lately.  And in world where people only read the headlines,  it almost seems irresponsible.

Feels disingenuous to draw conclusions from a study Noro Nordisk themselves conducted. Just saying.

“Sometimes being pushed out of your own strategic ignorance is the right thing to do”

The lynchings, separate schools, housing policies, sundown towns, etc. don’t count. . . .
