I got the impression in the episodes I watched that a lot of the jokes were based on character types and were kind of the same thing over and over again (the lecherous one, the ditzy woman, and so on). But perhaps I should give it another shot.

Wouldn't it be awesome if racists would self-segregate themselves? Possibly on an island far, far out in the ocean where the rest of us wouldn't have to deal with them?

Totally off-topic, but "paint"? Does that mean something different from "highlight"? Is it a regional way of saying "highlight"? (I really am just curious, I don't want to sound like I dislike your word choice at all.)

That is a much better name! "Cronut" sounds like a tractor part.

Because it's not racism, silly. It's a joke! See, she cleverly invented a new phrase for the acronym NBA! Word games are fun :-)

I know a few racist folks who live in Philly, and it seems to work like this: people in cities can be real assholes sometimes (everyone's living on top of each other, conflict happens), but if you're a racist, bad behavior by white people is just kind of "that's what happens when you live in a city," and bad behavior

I get the impression the photoshoppers were told, "she's underwater, so you can just do whatever the fuck you want."

"She bakes her own bread. She spends her extrabucks on Twizzlers."

That's the thing, though. They're not "the evilest of evils." But they're a large company with a lot of power over children, so I think it's important to critique them and use their choices to understand the way we think about culture.

I'm really not sure why people are harping on the blonde thing. The pattern is one of whiteness, and blondeness is just as marker of someone being *especially* white. That's the only reason it comes up. Having white blondes, white brunettes, and white redheads does not = diversity.

This is the best. Seriously. The Best.

What? No. Not even a little. There's a difference between a specific example—"Rapunzel is white and blonde"—and an overall pattern—"most Disney Princesses are white, and they often fall into a very narrow idea of white beauty that includes being blonde." No one is saying that it's offensive to be blonde; they're

Right? I didn't really get what people saw in him until I saw him on 30 rock (hate that show, but I loved him on it).

Scheduling, maybe?

It reminds me of the Vicar of Dibley, which is a show I normally wouldn't have watched (a bit too traditional sitcom for me), except that I am madly in love with Richard Armitage. So I watched the episodes he was in, and I watched this conventionally attractive, smart, adorable male character fall completely in love

Yeah, people do use the word that way, but with MUCH less cultural baggage.

Haha, true. Although that's almost always a qualified use of the word: "I'm a [insert activity here] virgin." And of course those uses have about 1000x less cultural baggage attached :-p

"AHHH" is borderline, and could be justified as an elongation of the exhalation sound. "Sexxxy" is weirdly sibilant but could possibly be a sarcastic jab at things that try to hard to be sexy.

Oh, I'm just being snarky about the hedgehog. I like the idea of making people very uncomfortable when they ask inappropriately personal questions :-p
