I completed the 8 Weeks to SEALfit program and got an ‘atta boy’ from a real life Navy SEAL buddy of mine the week I finished it. That felt incredible. I’ve kept most of the weight off that I lost through welcoming a new baby into the world and supporting my wife through all of that craziness (this is #3 for us), and

My highlight was driving in the snow to my gym in the early AM this March. I hate driving in the snow and am always looking for an excuse to skip the gym.

My plan for this year was to step up my physical activity a bit, which was aided by the addition of a rescued dog and a re-homed dog to my family. With these two, getting up at o’dark thirty for a long walk each day is a necessity.

Smart move.  Congrats!  And yea - the feeling was tremendous.  Now we just need to survive two more years of both kids in daycare and we’re sittin pretty!

Paid off my student loans after 12 agonizing years.

totally, but they look neat

BOOM!!!!!!

$1,200.00 away from debt freedom so no... missed it by $1,200.00. An injury which cut into my earnings for a spell threw me off track but I’ll be done by April.  So its not too bad all around.

Paid off my credit card in June and have kept it paid off for the rest of this year! Next year is all about saving (and hopefully getting a new job with a higher salary to allow me to save more!).

Goal was to pay off credit cards and save 10K. I have saved over 12K already, and cards are paid.

It’s been two days, so can we safely assume that y’all are just not gonna mention the fact that Lena Dunham confessed to lying in order to discredit an underage black rape victim.

The entire concept of perennially-frightened white moms scanning people’s online presence for “respectfulness” is so laughably disgusting and manipulative that it’s almost sublime.

Yes, starting about 4 months out, we bring our “Christmas Fund” back up from our Wish List into our Wish Farm group in YNAB and start working on building up a reserve. Since we have a Gifts category for birthdays/stuff throughout the year, we end up using what we normally budget there to save holiday funds, but it isn’

A couple of debut novels really blew me away this year: BABY TEETH by Zoje Stage and CHERRY by Nico Walker.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation was my fave this year. The psychiatrist was awesome, as was the friend. I lived in NYC in the time period mentioned and I had a premonition of the obviously foreshadowed end. But when it came it him me like a ton of bricks. Absurd, sad, beautiful.

I read scant few books that were actually published this year, but Rebecca Makai’s The Great Believers ended up being one of my favorite books of all time. Perhaps combining homosexuality, the AIDS epidemic, and art history is a bit of an easy sell for me, but that doesn’t diminish what an incredible piece of (mostly)

I didn’t read any of them. That’s sad.

Severance is a great read. Picked it up based on Maureen Corrigan’s review on Fresh Air. And that may be the most poseur cognoscenti thing I’ve said ... this morning.

Thank you for the nod to Circe. It was one of those books that I kept bugging my friends incessantly to read this year.  I loaned my copy to my daughter in Boston and I have this feeling I’m not getting it back and need to go out and buy another copy.   It was one of those books I polished off on a Saturday afternoon
