Totally agree with this. I’m upper management and I report to the head of the organization. He is SO GUILTY of 2 and 4 and it stresses the other employees out. I’ve tried to advise him of exactly your suggestion in #2 but he hasn’t bitten yet. But yes, other employees have said to me, they feel pressured to respond…
I’m 36 and have zero debt currently—no student loans, no mortgage, no car loan—and have no plans at this point to ever take out debt again. I have some savings, but I’ll never have a million, compound interest be damned, until my parents and the in-laws kick it. Maybe at that point. Right now I am earning a…
And woe to those who started saving at like, 35 instead of 25. There’s a whole bunch of under 35s where I work that are drowning in student loan debt with horrible loan terms, and it’s probably better for them to wipe those out ASAP. There’s a need for the steps necessary that people in that 30-45 age range can take to…
I’ll recommend a book called Your Best Year Ever by Michael Hyatt which really helps with this concept, how to make the daily adjustments needed to make a big shift. I got a lot out of that book.
Seconding Frederick Douglass, I mean he published the North Star in Rochester, it was his home base for a large majority of his efforts. I really wish Rochester had invested more in keeping his legacy alive. Last time I was there there was this TINY little museum exhibit in the Public Library where I was able to at…
Is Seabreeze still fun for kids these days, or is it more fun for the adults who can appreciate the nostalgia? I haven’t been there since the 90s.
you know I gotta hand it to you. At first I was like, why on earth is this column looking at Rochester NY? But I did get a lot of ideas on new places to go when I am visiting family there next. And it got me thinking—sometimes for work, family reunions, weddings, you end up traveling to places that were never on your…
Seconding running with audiobooks. I personally much prefer it to running with music at this point. I used to run with music but it got so repetitive.
That is definitely a good option as compared to flying out of ROC, at least from what I recall the flight prices are there. Maybe things have changed...I rarely fly in and out of ROC any more, it is just so much cheaper to take Amtrak, which for me is overnight both ways. That said, driving to YYZ is a hard sell when…
No gyrosphere love here? That thing was such a product of its times....
sure, if you’re in a comfortable radius away to make a long wknd of it there. But to fly out there to make a trip specifically to see the FL? Nah. This is said by someone who owns family property on Keuka.
Your last paragraph does make sense—I’m in Chicago now, and in my mid 30s. Most people I know around here who are looking to start a family are looking to get out b/c the cost to long-term settle down here is too much. Real estate is a fortune, also, prop taxes expected to rise dramatically. So people are looking to…
If we do end up back there, we’d probably do that. That said, the drive from Roch to Toronto is a hard sell when one is under 30 minutes from ORD.
I’m from there but don’t currently live there. I am open to moving back someday. The reason I currently do not live there is I earn far more money (despite the cost of living increase) in a major metropolitan area than I do there. Also, I enjoy traveling, and flying out of Rochester is very expensive.
Small world. I went there too, in the late 90s/early 2000s.
I too am from the area, lived there from birth - 2002, and my family is all still there so I am in the area regularly. I
Honestly....there is no reason for anyone not from the area to go there. It’s perfectly nice, don’t get me wrong. But it’s just like basically any other smallish city in the NE quadrant of the US.…
Another gorgeous place to travel to from Bangkok is Kamphaeng Phet. It’s small, and probably not much to do more than a few days, but very relaxing and gorgeous. I also stayed outside Uthai Thani on the river there and it was also just so lovely and quiet.
Yes, I would think that there are not enough tomatoes here to create a high acid enough environment. For example, if you google other canning recipes with eggplant and look at reputable sources like the Ball website, they all have vinegar in them. Unfortunately there are a lot of home bloggers who put canning advice…
This is NOT a good candidate for canning. The acidity is likely too low for water bath canning and I would guess the majority of readers here don’t pressure can--and I’m not sure this is a good candidate for that either to be honest.
