Merc’s 1 year, unlimited mile cpo warranty is great for a year, and then it’s not.  CPO warranties were great 10 years ago - manufacturers and dealers knew they had to step up when problems arose and take care of those buyers - but now?  It’s a marketing tactic designed to trick people into a false sense of security…

Yup.  Why would buyers buy something with residuals tanking when the inflated, decreased price is still an inflated price.  

This car was NEVER worth $70k+. It should have been sold at the same price as the sedan, which is also struggling with sales.

I’d prefer my cars were built well enough that unless it’s ultra high mileage, say upper 100k’s, that it won’t need much work. 

Cars.com has 2000 new cars from 2018 for sale. Sort from low to high price and you’ll see Corollas, Fortes, Sonatas and Foci list at 15.5k and below. A new car with a warranty. That’s new.

It’s not about needs, it’s about wants and in this way, car companies are master manipulators at showing us what we want. 

The upside is that with the Arteon, Stinger and A7, there are still options available that aren’t wagons but have wagon-adjacent cargo practicality, driving dynamics and arguably better looks.

They’ll be cheap, but they likely will not have been maintained by the 3rd and 4th owners. 

If 18k has to be taken off, it wasn’t priced correctly in the first place.  The fact that these are STILL sitting on lots tells you 18k isn’t enough of a discount.

@ 50k, the Jag Sportbrake is still 10k overpriced. Look, I like them, but they’re just not worth the price.
