My grandmother and her sister (Southerners) called their parents mamma and daddy when talking to each other ABOUT them, but I can’t remember what names they called them by when they addressed them directly. I was too young.

Maxton sounds like a brand of tampons, which is fine if that’s what it is. But as a child? Eek.
Or crying.
Wow, just wow. That cake!
Aww, sorry. And hugs to you. Grandmas are the best.
They are beautiful photographs in terms of lighting, composition, etc., but the subject matter is just so creepy and wrong. They remind me of those Calvin Klein ads that got everyone riled up awhile back.
“Hard Candy” is quite something. I second your recommendation. I also once saw Patrick Wilson & family in the airport (he’s from near me)—and I just gave him a nod & a smile b/c it was Christmas & I didn’t want to disturb them with their small children in tow.

It’s on cable right now (HBO maybe?). Ironically, I watched it about 3 days before the new Weiner/Huma/Clinton email scandal(?) broke.
I’m a white, middle-aged female living in the Northeast (but grew up in the South) and I love this show—mostly for the really smart writing.
I taught 8th grade last year (13-15 year olds). I tried very hard to include lessons of love, empowerment, and empathy in our reading, writing, and literature study.
