Alcohol withdrawal is so dangerous. There’s evidence of a kindling effect - the more someone goes through alcohol withdrawal, the more severe the symptoms are the next time. Which is why so many try and quit, then go right back to drinking because the symptoms are so bad. Medically supervised detox saves lives.

Amen to that. Information worth sharing, for sure. (And I just don’t subscribe to the stigma about “your dad is an alcoholic” — yeah, yup, he is. But you knowing this information is more important than me being embarrassed about having learned it!)

I’m amazed at how few people know the dangers here. I’ve seen a dozen people come into their first AA meeting as they enter full withdrawal. Even some “vets” who know better. More than once, we’ve had to get someone a bottle to, ironically, save their life. God, I can only imagine what his last few hours felt like.

Thank goodness you got over your addiction. The shame society heaps on people who are addicted to drugs (including alcohol) is killing them. And perhaps if Ellis didn’t fear the shame, he’d have gotten help and would still be alive.

Not from any kind of personal experience, but I came to say much the same thing. With most drugs, withdrawal makes you feel like you’re dying, but in fact can’t kill you. With alcohol you can absolutely die from suddenly stopping, if you’re sufficiently physically dependent on it. It really needs to be done with

I had a hell of a time coming off benzos. Worse than my opiate withdrawal. Worse than the alcohol.

That’s the thing about alcohol: it’s one of the few things that will kill you if your body has become physically dependent on it. The other one is Benzodiazepines. Pretty much everything else will make you feel like you want to die, but won’t actually kill.

As a recovered alcoholic I can say please get medical help if you stop drinking. I had to be hospitalized three days before going to rehab to prevent this. Don’t be ashamed, and don’t think you can automatically do it on your own.

Or our current president?

So this guy makes a big financial commitment to a long-term contract and then tries to walk away from it after the first year. Who does this asshole think he is, the Marlins?

Even more so, even if a juror has literally no idea about this case or this incident going into the trial; “White cop shoots black man” is entirely a political issue at the moment (well has been for quite some time, but more so now) so that once the trial begins and they hear the basics of the scenario, many juror

It’s even worse than it sounds. ”Run away” is not an accurate description of what happened.

These chucklefucks committed treason, no doubt. This meets the definition of collusion and treason. However, they will not be charged. Not with Ryan having a say.

And the worst part is no one will go anything about it.

These fuckers need to be charged with treason.

In the real world, people remember when they meet with people from other countries. In Trump world, despite numerous stories swirling around about Russians, none of them remember their meetings with Russians until months later when other sources confirm them, because they themselves have left them off all

It’s not going to make a damn bit of difference. The GOP will fully support everything Trump has done and everything he will do, and they have the keys to the kingdom. There is literally no possible evidence that will make them change course now.

I keep wondering how none of these people who’ve murdered unarmed black men, don’t end up dead in a ditch somewhere after being acquitted.

Why is the court allowing the same Judge to preside repeatedly? Are there any laws or procedures that suggest or mandate a different judge preside in such circumstances, in case another individual is able to better jury-wrangle?

It’s nice to know that protecting the “purity” of white vaginas is just as important now as it was in 1955.
