Still, that’s a couple goblins out of the fight for a round and some goblins wasting their actions waking them up. Every time you can get an enemy to waste their action on something other than attacking is a win, damage mitigation is very powerful in 5e if you can figure out ways to use it effectively.

Really? I’ve used it extremely effectively since we started playing 5e. You definitely have to do a bit of metagaming to decide what npcs you’ll hit with it, and if you roll lousy yeah it won’t do much good, but I’ve used it to swing battles in our favor or simply end them(sometimes before they really start) numerous…
