Rex EV’s are dead, get over it.

Good point, but also look at it this way... If Nikola sells even one truck to someone who’d “never buy a GM product” then it’s a win. Beyond that, GM gains a captive customer for their EV tech and lets them do a whole bunch of marketing on their own dime. They get 11% of the company and a board member. Suppose Nikola

I try really hard not to gratuitously insult General Motors on this blog but they make it extremely difficult.”

Seriously, Erik’s take on the GM-Nikola deal is particularly terrible. GM buys in a lousy 11% share with the opportunity to appoint a board member, in exchange they get a built-in customer for their EV tech, for as many vehicles as Nikola can manage to sell. It’s a bet, and a pretty small one at that.  I don’t see

It also drives up their stock prices as the look shiny new thing crowd jumps in.

2nd Gear:

1st no one here wants a cheaply made EV that gets 50 miles of range. It’s a different market

You pretty much summed it up. My favorite part was this:

OK, just let me get this straight. GM is selling cheap EV’s in China, made for China, in China and couldn’t possibly sell them in America do to pretty much everything from regulations, cost, and and actual market segment that doesn’t exist in America, so fuck them for not doing this. GM then makes partnerships with

That little hatchback is pretty nice looking. I’m not surprised it’s outselling the Tesla just based on dimensions and price alone. Microvans and other tiny cars are much bigger sellers in China than full-size cars, and $4200 is a steep premium in that market if the 100 or so mile range on the Mini EV is enough for

What are the robots going to do now that their jobs are being taken?

I feel the same way about the ‘18 Cruze TDI Sedan I have.  It gets better highway mileage than a Prius.  And it isn’t a Prius.

As the owner of a ‘17 Cruze hatchback it really is an underrated little car. I love it

Yes but, they did all of these things which allowed for a stronger balance sheet and higher overall profit margins.

Because GM doesn’t exist where he is, I suppose. Admittedly they have a pretty terrible record in Europe.

I like how Honda is gaining GM’s battery platform in this partnership, but somehow GM is the one that doesn’t have a future.

can’t wait for david’s article in 2047: “I bought this piece of sh!t 2021 grand wagoneer at an auction in dallas texas, and towed it home with the help of otto torchinsky and his changli pickup”

The Rivian is a much more balanced and better looking design than this mess.

Most people are irrational and vote based on emotion. Very few people make decisions based on facts and even fewer make decisions based solely on objective facts and without consideration of any emotions. Fear is a one of the most powerful emotions and quite easy to invoke. Humans are complex and very complicated
