Batteries are expensive and EVs are not yet profitable. The Bolt is dorky looking but a subcompact is all they could do. They can’t sell emissions credits to other companies like Tesla can to barely turn a profit.

Just compare Jeep’s effort, above, to the Hummer EV (which, admittedly, is not body-on-frame, but nonetheless is clearly EV-focused):

The Bolt EUV is still using their old battery design from the Bolt. The Ultium based Chevy CUV EV that they haven’t officially announced yet will be more important. (Behind Barra)

They’re not trying to attract younger buyers. People that were teens and young adults when the movie came out are the target audience for a luxury EV SUV.

Ford has one competitive EV (Mach-E), and the Transit is an ICE van converted to EV with a dismal 126 miles of range. At that size GM has the Cadillac Lyriq and this Chevy (behind Mary Barra) which hasn’t been officially unveiled yet. The Hummer SUV is on the left and Chevy pickup on the right. Much more to come too.

Ford is spending $29 billion over the next 5 years and basically just getting started compared to GM.

Its also missing the forward facing sensor so it isn’t able to detect vehicles ahead.
