Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Walmart's concept also use a micro-turbine as an engine as well? The cool part of a turbine is you can use anything that is combustable, which makes it a great candidate for the prospect of CNG, 100% biodiesel, etc.
Walmart has been toying in the area of hybrid drivetrains, even broaching the use of a turbine power system that would more efficiently power electric motors/batteries. But by and large, the DOE SuperTruck program is the first real push of using a hybrid set-up in the Class 8 sector.
