This method is a lot more expensive. The overhead wire method is tested and proven over decades. Many european cities have trolleybus systems which work exactly like this and it’s also how electric trains work.

In fairness, their European bus models are of much higher quality than other competing buses, and their Taxis are C-Class, S-Class and E-Classes. Plus the V-Class. As the inventor of the motorcar, I think they should be able to make any sort of vehicle they like.
